As our class is small I am hoping to be able to construct the class to give information that is both research based but also very applicable to your situation. I will want to get to know you and the reasons you are taking the course so that I can insure that the material covered will meet your needs. I also feel that it is important that you have an understanding of my background as we reflect on research, methodologies and best practices.
My philosophy for teaching is something that I have taken from the book " Switch" by Chip and Dan Heath, which talks about making changes. I know that I need to involve your emotional side to have you "feel" the communication system. This is characterized by the elephant. I will have many videos and projects that have you experiencing the concept that I am teaching in class.
The Heaths talk about the rationale side of the brain being the driver. I know that I need to give you information that is researched based and is connected to your past knowledge.
The last part they talk about is making sure you know the path. To me this is the practical information that will allow you to apply theory to your
work. I want to insure that I have given you the tools that you will be able to use after class is finished.
